The only reason she would have cause for concern is that you throw your life away pursuing something that may not turn out. She doesn't want to see that happen. She also wants to be certain that you have your wits about you because it can be a damaging and wicked industry. Above all else...make sure you are not putting your eggs all in that basket! Educate yourself. Go to college, learn a trade that will see you through life and be a suitable back up! Pursue acting on the side and as a point of interest like you would a sport. Surely she knows how talented you are and knows you would enjoy acting already. Just don't scare her into thinking you are solely interested in that! Be smart. Acting is wonderful, but it's a hard racket too and you must love yourself enough to take good care of yourself (by this, I mean your livelihood) while you are pursuing a dream. There is no reason that you can't throw acting courses, auditions, research into your schedule here and there.

If you haven't got the confidence to tell your own mum, the years of rejections and knock backs at auditions are going to be pretty brutal. Are you really cut out for this?

You can never predict or control the way anyone will react to what you say or do.
The confidence you seek is really in yourself. Trust that you know yourself, your drive, your passion. Own it, then go and talk with her.
Listen to her, thank her for he response...but stay true to yourself. After all, no matter how hard she wants to predict or control your life...it is yours. "Break a leg!"

Do a few local plays first to see if you have the taste for theatre. If your mom sees that you work hard and like doing it, then she should be more accepting of you telling her that you would like to act for a living.
