The worst is taken care of but it left a stiff residue that is brown compared to the rest of the area of the carpet. I don't have a remanent to cut it out and replace that piece either.
Any suggestions would be welcome...thanks! :)

I also suggest ice...I work at a hotel where we have berber carpet, and ice is always the answer for gum, peanut butter, anything.."tar" like...and its guaranteed to not leave a residue that with attract dust throughout the years to come.....also windex works very well for s pills, dirt etc....the ammoinia comepletely evaportes so it wont attract dirt as well..

put baking soda on the area, let it set for a few minutes so that the baking soda is not only on the top but gets underneath also. Then use hot water with just a little dish soap and scrub the area. dry up the water and soap with a paper towel or wash clothe. After making sure the area is completely dry vaccumn or wipe with paper towel and gum should come right out. Yes, this sounds like a long process, but it usually works.
