What purpose does it serve? Was it supposed to be that way all along or did QT decide to do it when he split the original into 2 parts?

Because with the volume, they want you to think of her as a pissed off killer. The less information they give you the less you know about why she's after them, and so the more it seems like just another popcorn flick.

In the second flick, it was was going to go deeper and that's when you find out her backstory mostly to give a much deeper understanding. That's why there is more blood in the first one and more story in the second.

In the first section it is titled "The Bride", it is what you are supposed to be focusing on, the fact that a bride was beaten and shot and left for dead. It is not until the very end of part one that you are even made aware of the fact that her daughter is not dead. All you know up until that point is this woman has reason to want all of these people dead. The question at the end of part one is should BeBe being alive make a difference to the Bride who was attacked at her rehearsal dinner and who thought she lost her baby. Part two is more about the woman that became the Bride and so her name has to come out at that point to make to make her more human. The victims in part one are like coworkers. The victims in part two are friends and lovers. Where as she can kill the first two victims with no feeling, the final three victims require that Beatrice reach down and make this personal. The killing moves she uses are signature moves of who she is, a trained killer, as she is reminded in the end that is all she is, at least until she kills Bill. That is why she cries at the end. He was right about the fact that in the end he and she are killers and they have no choice in the matter. If you think back to part 1 she invites the little girl to kill her later. If she were anything more than a killer she would have said nothing or killed the girl then and there. Instead she invited the girl to come after her. In hindsight, if she knew BeBe was alive , she might have just killed the girl and been done with it. It is like Bebe is an excuse for her to be different. And yet try as she may she keeps on killing.

QT is just messing with us. No deep meaning--he's just playing with our heads again.

well i kinda agree with the guy before this, but...i think its more of a way to get you keep watching. it leaves you wanting more. you keep watching to see if they say her name. and you want to see the next one if they say her name. its all about making you want more.
