They should have been more responsible then. The farmer has his living tied up in his crops and stock. Wild hogs are dangerous, destructive and carry disease. He couldn't tolerate potential loss.
I also doubt the school could have financially dealt with the lawsuits that could come up if their mascot actually hurt someone.

On average, there are 7-10 human deaths from domestic pigs annually. I am sure the risk factor goes up on wild hogs.

Really... tough luck. But, I wouldn't want to be the one to wrestle that sucker back into a cage, or even rescue a horse from it. They are DANGEROUS, with razor sharp teeth and a nasty temper. It's probably better off-- if animal control had come after it, it would have ended up dead anyway, along with what ever animals the boar came across. At least it didn't go to waste...
