get your moor some melafix to help with the tail. if you are getting the mini-bow kit make sure it is the one with an over the back filter and not the undergravel filter. goldfish make way too much waste for an undergravel to work -- even when they are small. he should be fine in a bowl with water changes every couple of days. goldfish suck up a lot of oxygen so if you can add an airstone to help. the 5 gallon aqua-tech at walmart is an extremely good tank for 40 bucks. i think the basic 10 gallon at walmart is only like 30 -- a filter, hood and aquarium -- can't beat that. you can buy the same thing at a pet store for twice that. the company that makes it just changes the name for walmart. if you can hold out a week or two that would be a much better home for your moor. i keep bettas in the 2.5 minibows and they love them.

A black moor that small would be ok in the 2.5 gallon until he gets better, and should be ok in a pitcher size container until you get that, make sure that when you are doing a water change use water conditioner and stress coat, very important, especially with him being hurt it will help him heal and keep him calm with all the water changes. The tail will at least grow back some but probably not all the way but enough for him to survive.

I had the same problem, I put my black moor in a large coffee pot and changed the water every day until I was able to buy a new tank about two weeks later. My moor lost almost all of its fin and half of a gill because of my cichlid. Thankfully it has recovered fully and is a beautiful as the day I bought it Have had this one know for 6 months.

It could be ok in a small container if you do daily water changes. Add some melafix too. And tell your husband that he does not need to remove the fish while conditioning the water, it works pretty quickly.
