I just got a digital thermostat - how do I keep it from turning on and off every 5 mins to adjust temp?

The temp goes down 1 degree and it turns the furnace back on. It is getting annoying. Isn't there someway to set a range?

Thermostats are designed to hold the temperature that is set. If your house cools off 1 degree in 5 minutes you are loosing heat at an incredible rate. (the house would cool off 12 degrees in one hour). You would be well advised to find the reason for the heat loss.
