i presume you mean the chinese warriors? first of all, make sure that the statue has been coated with something that will protect it from the elements. If you live in a cold winter zone, then i'd recommend taking it indoors in the winter. in order to use this kind of ornament successfully, you need to avoid placing it in an eclectic, mixed flower border (english cottage garden). a space that is mostly green and with few brightly colored flowers would work best. the space should be slightly formal, but not strictly symmetrical (such as classic french and italian gardens). the most important aspects of oriental gardens are balance (without symmetry) and a simple, subdued overall effect.
--perennials for greenery: ferns, hostas, creeping junipers, small spruce or pine specimens, hens and chicks, alpine currant (which can be pruned and shaped for a bit of a formal look),irish moss, green leafed dogwood, and various grasses.

--perennials for subdued flowers: japanese iris, hydrangea(late blooming white clusters),azalea or rhododendron (early spring bloomers), white flowered lilac, various sedums, trollius (ball shaped gold or yellow flowers in spring), ajuga (mat forming groundcover with bright blue early blooming low flowers, cowslip primrose (early flowering, yellow), white or yellow foxgloves, ligularia (tall, midsummer blooming with spikes of yellow flowers)

these are just a few ideas of what could work. its important to plant so that you dont have evrything in bloom at the same time, otherwise you could end up with a riot of color which doesnt suit the style at all. try to aim for white, yellow, or blue flowers.

the statue would look fantastic with a backdrop of green, 2 or 3 large rocks with creeping junipers draped on them,a clump of japanese iris next to it, and in front of it, a pond with water lilies floating on its surface, and surrounded by hostas of various shades of green.
