In america there are various cultures as you all know. Currently we have a problem with obesity but at the same time we have all these people obsessed with working out and being in shape...you see them running miles and biking etc..

Why are some americans not working out, while others are?
Could it be something to do with wealth? Seems the more wealthy work out more.

Well there is a huge relation to obesity and class. The lower class tends to be more obese because they have to dedicate more time to working at more labor intensive jobs to make a decent standard of living. (In other word the poor people who need to have this recreational exercise are tired from standing up all day!)

Additionally, the most affordable food for the lower class is also the least healthy fast foods which are cheaper and less time consuming (on behalf of the consumer) to prepare. Orgainc and health foods are two to three times more expensive than regular groceries!

As an Black American I can also tell you that the traditional foods of Black cuisine are unhealthy too because they are those slave foods with were the left animal parts that slave owners didnt want to eat (hog intestine, pig feet, tails, chicken gizzards). And the best way to make anything taste better is to fry it, salt it, and dip it in butter which are all definite heart and body killers. These persist in some homes because it has become traditional b/c the meats, along with chicken, are still the cheapest.

Hope this shed some light into the cultural aspect of obesity.

Maybe the gym memberships are too expensive for some of the population. That's really no excuse in my opinion because you can still workout at home. Maybe it's a lack of motivation? Maybe some people just need a pep talk...used to work with my old roommate years ago and it works on my husband now.

Probably..... because people who actually work for a living and run a household have to sacrifice sleep so they can work out.... and most just don't want to do that.... then there are others who just lay in bed all day and collect wellfare.

Well, it depends on the lifestyle as well. If you are busy and have no free time then you are probably too tired to be health conscious. I workout everyday.

th wealthy do it because they can afford the fancy stuff that actually work and they have more money so they dont have to work as much or as long and they have more free time to work out.

It has to do with where we put our priorities for our time. Besides some of us are lazier than others.

You've answered your own question. In the U.S., the more money you earn, the thinner and more health-conscious you are. There you go.
