If it's a male actor who has won in any male acting category, then it's a tie between Walter Brennan and Jack Nicholson at 3 each.
If you're only looking at wins for Best Actor, then there are a few who've won 2 Oscars:
Marlon Brando, Gary Cooper, Tom Hanks, Dustin Hoffman, Fedric March, Jack Nicholson, Spencer Tracy.
Incidentally, Jack Nicholson also received the most number of nominations - at 12. Sir Laurence Olivier only received 10.

Me, too, i'd agree that Jack Nicholson took home the most Oscar statuettes (3). besides, he also has the highest number of Oscar nominations (12).
