I am in the IB program at my school in the top 1 percent of my class. I took the PSAT this year and ranked at something like 98% against juniors. I have been receiving emails from colleges because of the PSAT. I was wondering if there is anything that I can really do right now about making colleges interested or whatever? besides keeping doing well in school, etc.

extracurricular activities are huge. get involved in 1 or 2 groups and stay in until you graduate... also, get into a leadership position. keep improving and take your tests early (in case you want to re-test). and learn a little grammar-- ("besides keeping doing well in school")

Sounds like you are a great student with a lot of innate ability! That is FANTASTIC! It is something one cannot learn! That will go a long way, but unfortunately, not far enough. I have interviewed students for a highly selective northeastern university, and I know some of the things colleges are looking for.

You will need to continue doing well in all of your courses, and taking challenging courses as you are doing is good. You should probably take 3 or 4 years of the same language, history every year, science and math every year, all of which I am sure you are already planning!

The other answerers are correct about extracurricular activities. In addition, seek something that sets you apart in a good way from the dozens of other applicants with your same academic credentials. Can you excel at a particular sport? Do you play a particular instrument well? Can you start a Habitat for Humanity project at your school? Can you tutor others that are struggling? Can you be active in a number of groups that contribute to your school and the community and be prepared to state how you so contributed?

You will likely test well. You will likely continue to achieve good grades in challenging courses. You can help make yourself more interesting with a well-rounded and even unusual set of outside interests.

Hope that helps, and I wish you all the best! :-)

Just figure out what you're interested in and what school is the best fit for you. Don't go someplace you don't like just because it might be a bit more prestigious than another school that you fall in love with the campus and community of. Keep taking IB and AP courses, and do a few extracurriculars that interest you and you enjoy. Make sure to organize your college mail in a way that makes sense to you and reply to the schools you're interested in. It's a lot of grunt work applying for college, but once you're here, you will love every minute of it!

You need extra curricular activities and school clubs and organizations: student council, newspaper, yearbook, volunteer activities, fund drives, etc. They are looking for well rounded individuals, not just people with good grades.
