sum means add
twice a number. let's call the number n. twice n is 2*n = 2n
-14 is what you add to n
then multiply the sum by 2
so 2 * (2n - 14)
the result means this is where the = goes
greater means add that number to the end. so + 12 goes at the end
opposite means -. for instance opposite of 5 = -5. so opposite of n is -n
12 greater -> -n + 12
the whole thing
2 * (2n - 14) = -n + 12
get it?
