When the Sun exits the Main Sequence stage, it will become a red giant and will eventually "swallow" Earth. This won't happen for another couple billion years.

Considering the current political attitude towards our earth and its environment, the collapse of humanity will cease shortly after the collapse of civilization, and shortly thereafter our species may cease to exist. This could happen as soon as the next 200 years.

We lack sufficient measuring equipment to derive at answers related to space. That results in the following answer.

When our sun leaves its stable condition (..called the 'main sequence'..) This will begin in about 4.5-billion years, at which time the sun will expand greatly, scorching the Earth to such an extent that there will be absolutely no life of any kind left; it will be nothing more than a dead, barren lump of rock.
If anyone on Yahoo Answers tries to tell you that the sun will explode, ignore it. The sun doesn't have enough mass to explode.
