Quite a lot of people don't think it is necessary to be married with children these days. There is no shame in not being married and having children. This saddens me.

I think people are happier these days to leave an exit - some way to escape once things get rough and the social pressure has been lifted a little.

I have no plans to marry - but I would like a permanent relationship with someone I love and children with them.

I look at all the marriages in my family and very few, if any, are happy ones - I don't want that for myself.

Good question!

Last summer I went to 3 weddings.

All three couples were in their late 20's - early 30's so maybe people are waiting longer to marry.

That's a good sign I think.

Yeah...I think it's because people are just cohabiting instead. Less of a commitment than marriage. That is the problem with society today; nobody wants to "commit" to anything!

There's an age when the number of funerals you attend outnumber the weddings and baptisms.

No. It is still reasonable for people to set up the legal framework. It establishes next of kin, taxation, inheritance, and other useful things.

Marriage is a symbol...
It can be obsolete for folks who don't believe in it anymore, but for those who still believe in marriage it's still as important as they imagine it to be...

Well......Pretty much seems to be. I only went to one wedding last year. Use to go to a dozen in just April. Something is going on.
