My seven month old daughter started making a clucking clicking noise today (it's the sound you make from putting your tongue on the roof of your mouth and clicking it back down). I'm not worried about her (though I'm a little irked that she was working on "mama" when she discovered how to do this instead), I just want to know how normal it is to do that. Are there any mothers out there whose babies do that?

My baby does this all the time. We do it back and forth and laugh and laugh together! Do it with her too. Its hard not to laugh when you see what a kick she gets out of it.

Don't worry, they all seem to find that noise at some point, get a laugh out of someone, find that encouraging, and continue to cluck for a few weeks until they move on to a new sound.

she is practicing with her vocals and her tounge and enjoys the sounds that she is making. My friends 8 month old is doing the same thing right now and both my kids did it too. There will be many more funny sounds coming out of her mouth over the next few months.

How cute! My 9 mth old has been doing this for several weeks along with a wide variety of squeals and screeches. He is also immitating me shaking my head "no" at his 2 year old sister. It's all so sweet and funny. Write about it in a journal so that you remember this later. This time goes by too fast.

I learned that by making different sounds babys are learning the fundamentals of speech. The clicking motion is the same motion nessessary to make the L sound. Next it will be another sound and movement. Please don't discourage her from making these new sounds. That is how she will learn to talk.

it is a great skill that she has figured she has. Babys when small, do this to tell you they are hungery. It will pass, and mama will become a word in her vocab. Just be proud of her, and keep practicing.

Yes! So weird...mine just started doing this. Mostly it is just after she eats. She did it once accidently and evidently liked it because now she does it after almost every meal. It's cute.
