I am 30 and for the past 8 months. My period has changed. It starts light for the first 2 days then completely stops on 3rd it comes back on the 4th day. I am usually a light flow but on the 4th and 5th day it is very heavy. On the 4th day is when I also am cramping and back pain. I used to only get menstruation for 5 days. Now it is 6. Also before my period starts my breast are extremely tender. I feel like they are filled with milk kind of like after giving birth and they swelled up. I was wondering if this was normal does menstruation change, as you get older. Please let me know

I am almost 35 and I have noticed that my periods have really changed the last two years or so, breasts feel sore and heavy about a week before period starts, and I spot for two or three days, bleed heavy for one day, then spot again for a couple of days. My gyno said that it is just my body aging .

Women begin perimenopause in their 30's. This can include irregular cycles and changes to your period.

This is a process, and a lengthy one - 15 - 20 years or so. In fact, menopause itself can only be diagnosed in hindsight, as in, I haven't had a period or any spotting for a full year, that must have been menopause.

Your gp can order blood tests to check your reproductive hormone levels, if you want, but it's not really necessary. The next that you see him/her, ask this same question.

In the meantime, here's some information about menopause.

You need to write down all your symptoms and go get a
good exam at your gyn. Have you had a pap recently?
30 yrs old seems awful young to me to be going into
perimenopause. It does sound like your hormones are
off kilter and he may have to put you on some for a few
months to get your periods straightened out. Have you had
any children?

See your Gyn because you could be going through Perimenopause (time when body changes before you hit menopause). Menstruation does change as you get older during your 30's and 40's.

I'm 44 and I have been going through similar symptoms as you since April 2006. My gyn told me I was going through Perimenopause.

Do you have fibroids? Mine used to come for 8 days, go away and come back a week later. You get that kind of crazy irregularity when you have fibroids. Tell your gyn whats going on.
