Hendrix - he was good no matter who he played with, but Clapton needs Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker to get him really playing

Jimi Hendrix was naturally born with more talent. The man couldn't read music, and restrung his guitar backwards when he was young. Evidence points to him have perfect pitch (which probably every musicians wants). He had some good lyrics, but was not that good of a singer. Clapton had better lyrics, because the songs he wrote usually came from the heart, not a vision or dream. Clapton was a better singer too. I've personally got to go with Clapton, he has the best vibrato in the world and won't miss a note. Hendrix could miss a note, but bend that note until it was what he was looking for. Both influenced each other in their 3-man bands, Jimi Hendrix Experience and Cream.

I'm splitting this in half. I love Jimi's guitar playing. He created sounds that no one had ever heard of before. He was the master of the guitar solo. But Eric Clapton was a better songwriter. From the Yardbirds, to Cream, to Blind Faith, to Derek and the Dominos, to his own solo career. While Jimi had alot of great songs and great guitar work, especially solos, I think Clapton gets the edge because of his songwriting ability and his longevity. While you can listen to Jimi's work with amazement and hear great music, I think you can feel the emotion more in alot of Clapton's music.

Clapton, he can play it all, from Oh my God rock, to the most soul jerking blues. Jimi only played his style and only rocked.

I think Clapton has more talent combining words and music, and is a great guitarist.

Hendrix is just a master at playing, no matter what.

Overall, I'd have to go with Clapton.

What about Santana's guitar skills, though?

Depends on your state of mind man,
If you're out there...Jimi, totally. Way better trip.
But say if you're with your parents at the concert.... uh, Eric I guess.
