Just about every name you come up with is open to teasing. "Hey Ken, where's Barbie?", "Run, Forrest, Run", "Get on the floor, Mat.", etc.
If you like the name (and it doesn't have a built in joke - first name Forrest, last name Phyre) use it.
Here in Dallas, we have a financial analyst who had a newpaper column. His name began, very properly as Benjamin Dover - his real name. He finally accepted the joke and became Ben Dover.

I think that if you name your child Forrest that he will never live it down. People will probably reference back to the movie Forrest Gump & what not. Maybe you could use Forrest as a middle name? That away you can have the name you love & your child can have a name that will not be made fun of.

You're right -- Forrest is a nice name (Forrest Whittaker doesn't seem to have a problem with it!).
Unfortunately, kids will find a way to make fun of it, even if they never have seen "Forrest Gump" ("Run, Forrest, run!"). My name is Kristin, and you'd think that would be a tough one -- it doesn't rhyme with anything, right? Oh, no. Try "pissy Krissy". You could name your child pretty much anything, and someone out there in the cosmos will make fun of it.
Just remember, though, that if you decide to go with Forrest, that your little one will be the one who has to live with it. You might love the name and never wish you had named him anything else, but he might drag his little backside to school every day wishing he were named anything BUT! :) Forrest, though nice, is very, very open to teasing. Before you commit your child to it, be extra sure it's worth all the hassle and heartache the teasing will cause. And is any name worth your child crying on the way home from school?
Try it as a middle name, if you can't live without it.

There was a kid I went to school with and his name was forrest, and people just joked with him about it. We were in high school when that movie came out. I don't think those kids will have seen that movie if their parents had half a brain I mean really would you let your 6 year old watch forrest gump?

i love the name forrest go for it and most kids when he starts school wont even know the movie forrest gump so dont worry about it i know a couple people named forrest and they are very popular. and no matter what kids are called some other kid will make fun of them. they dont nessecarily tease people about their names only but how they dress, what they eat, games they play, and mostly what they look like.

regardless of the name, a kid will get made fun of if other kids feel the need. Forrest is unique and a good strong name. If he doesn't like it, pick a really good middle name and he can go by that.

If you love the name use it! It's a nice name. By the time your child reaches school age, that movie would be working it's way towards 20 years old! I wouldn't worry about it. If you are so in love with a name, go with it and be happy. It takes most people forever to settle on a name.

I know several men named "Forrest" and I think it's a cool name for a boy. One of those strong, manly names.
