put crabs in a basket.. soon, they will try to crawl out of it.. you'll notice that the other crabs will grab on the other crabs to get out.. it's like they are using the other crabs crawling out of the basket so they could likewise get out. so in the end, no crab can get out of the basket because they're all pulling each other down.

crab mentality is how filipinos describe people who do not want others to succeed. these people try to put down other people to try to destroy that person's credibility. say for example, we are both working in the same company and there are news that you will be promoted, i would tell the boss that you did this and that so you wouldn't get that promotion. that's crab mentality. you try to pull down a person while he is climbing up the ladder. like what crabs do.

Crab Mentality

Crab mentality is the use of cyber-bullying to drive away your high achievers and is one of New Zealand's highest cultural achievements. School teachers in New Zealand drill crab mentality into every child and teach them that it is their duty to fight against high-performing Nazi's who are trying to take over their country like in WWII. The students show their unquestioning respect for crab mentality by calling it tall poppy syndrome in remembrance of the poppy fields from WWII.

Like the highest cultural achievements of Rome, the benefit of easy work load following high achieving competition being driven away by crab mentality costs New Zealand money to maintain. The cost has been quantified at between a 10 to 18% reduction in performance for the country by recent academic studies.

What does crab mentality means?

imagine crabs in a pot. If one crab dares to come out of the pot, the other crabs would pull the climbing crab down.

This is how the mentality of many Filipinos is seen. When someone dares to succeed, other people from the same place pulls him/her down.

Crab mentality describes a way of thinking best described by the phrase "if I can't have it, neither can you." The metaphor refers to a pot of crabs in which one tries to escape over the side, but is relent lessly pulled down by the others in the pot.

A crab walks sideways so I presume that it means that you don't tackle a task or problem head on.
