I forgot how to solve for x when x is in a fraction. If u could illustrate how x is simplified in each fraction, it would help. Thanks.

First, get rid of the fraction by multiplying through by 12, because it is divisible by 4 and 3. If you do that you get
12(x/4) - 12(2x/3) = -(12)10
(12x/4) - (24x/3) = -120
3x - 8x = -120
-5x = -120
x = 24

You would find the LCD ( which is 12, in this case ). Then, you would take 12 and multiply it with x/4 , 2x/3 , & -10. In this case, when you multiply the fractions you can cross cancel. So... your new equation would be 3x - 8x = -120. Subtract the 3 and 8 and you would get -5x=-120. Divide by -5, and your FINAL answer would be 24.

OK, multiplying fractions is very easy, just multiply the numerators and the denominators. So, for the first one you would do 8m x n and 7 x 12m. The first answer is your new numerator, and the second answer is your new denominator. You can simplify from there. For the second one you do basically the same thing, except first you should get 5 and three eighths into one fraction. So, 5 x 8 is 40, add the 3/8 you already have, and you get 43/8. Then just follow the same steps as before. Adding fractions is usually a little harder, because you have to make sure you have a common denominator, but since you already have a common denominator, you're all set. So, just add the numerators, and your denominator stays the same. That's all there is to it! Hope that helped!

Find the least common denominator...

x/4 - 2x/3 = -10

equals

3x/12 - 8x/12 = -120/12

-5x/12 = -120/12

multipe - 12/5 to both sides

x= -120/12 * -12/5

x= -120/-5 = 24

first you must get everything over a common denominator.
The LCD (least common denominator) is 12.

Your equation is now...
3x/12 - 8x/12 = -120/12
this can be simplified to 3x - 8x = -120

-5x = -120
x = 24

Use the mathematic operations you learned previously to get x
on one sid eof the equal sign by itself. Common denominators,
multiply both sides by denom. combine like terms, negative on
both sides cancel out, divide both sides by multiplier on the left
side. x=24
