Try these:
Artemis Fowl series by Eoin Colfer - criminal genius
The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis- a world of talking animals
Fly By Night (I forgot the author) - tagline is: "Imagine a world where books are banned!"
Knights of the Silver Dragon by Ree Soesbee - funny adventure with a thief, an apprentice wizard and a boy
The Thief Lord by Cornelia Funke- okay, so it's not set in a fantasy world, but there are "magical" elements to it
Peter and the Star-Catchers (I forgot the authors) - trust me, it's not that childish!
Troll Fell by Katherine Langrish - although I haven't read it yet, I think it's pretty good. :)

Tamora Pierce has two sets of books. One set, called "The Circle of Magic" or "Magic Circle" has 9 books in the series. The first quartet (Sandry's Book, Tris's Book, Daja's Book, Briar's Book), the second quartet (Magic Steps, Street Magic, Cold Fire, Shatterglass), and The Will of The Empress.
The second set is based in the world called "Tortall" and consists of 14 or 15 books now. The Song of the Lioness quartet, the Immortals quartet, the Protector of the Small quartet, Trickster's Choice, Trickster's Queen, and the new Beka Cooper: Terrier book which is set roughly 100 years before the first 14 books.
If you like Garth Nix, he's almost done with another series of books called THE KEYS TO THE KINGDOM. Books: 1. Mister Monday, 2. Grim Tuesday, 3. Drowned Wednesday, 4. Sir Thursday have all been published. 5. Lady Friday is supposed to be coming out on March 1st. Then there will be #6, Superior Saturday and #7, Lord Sunday.
Nancy Farmer wrote The Ear, The Eye and the Arm which is a futuristic SF YA novel set in Africa.
And Louis Sachar's Holes is a great book. I liked it better than the movie.

Cameron Dokey's "Beauty Sleep", "Golden", "The Story Teller's Daughter". "Midnight Pearls" or "The Scarlet Moon" by Debbie Vigue.
"A Great and Terrible Beauty" and "Rebel Angels" By Libba Bray. Tamora Pierces Circle Quartets. You should try some different re-tellings of King Arthurs time. I can't remember the authors but theres a few such as "I Am Morgan Lee Fay", and "I am Mordered" also "Sword of the Rightful King".
I reacently read a fabulous book that's a modern day retelling of the fairy tale Snow White and Red Rose called "The Shadow of the Bear" by Regina Doman. The sequel "Black As Night" a retelling of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs was also great.
Another good book is "The Goose Girl"

Hey a really good series that I just started that I'm sure you will love if youl ike those books are the Pendragon Series. There's ten books in all, and the eight is about published. If youl ike books with lotso Irony, and Advernture then this is the book you need to read. Another good action/suspence novel is Ravens Gate by Anthony Horowitz. I don't know if yuo've heard of thse, but they seem to be the bomb for me. Try them out your sure to love them. Oh and Pendragon is Written by D. J. McHale. Thanks for your time, and good Question!

There is a three book serries by an author named Philip Pullman the series is His Dark Materials, the books are The Subtle Knife, the Golden Compas and The Amber Spyglass. If you like fantasy you will like these books. They are set in a world like ours, but not quite ours. I read thru all three of them in about a week I liked them so much.
They are in the young adult section of the book store usually but are good for all ages 13+

The Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean Auel is the best cave man book ever. It's the first of the "Earth's Children" series and I think the best.

Please, please, read the Temeraire series. His Majesty´s Dragon by Naomi Novik is the first book. At first I didn´t pay much attention to it, but my brother read it, then a friend, so I gave it a try and probably is one of the best books I have ever read. Just read the first chapter, if you don´t like it then stop, but there are three more books in the series and more coming, and I can´t stop reading them.

You should really check out Anne McCaffrey's series of books about Pern. She is definitely one of the best fantasy/sci fi writers ever. I'd also recommend Piers Anthony and his books about Xanth.
