Would you support the practice of turning dogs into glue or food for some other animal or even food for people? Some people say that horses are dumb, because they let us ride them. Then the same must apply to sled dogs! The key word here is LET. Horses LET us ride them-if they didn't want us on their backs, we wouldn't be on them for long (proof: mustangs), so it's not that they're so dumb they don't realize they're being ridden. Sure, dogs greet us happily with their tails wagging, licking our face, but, just because horses don't show that enthusiasm, it doesn't mean they don't love us. After all, if they didn't love us, why would they even let us approach them (they're prey species, after all).

OK, so you're right about me not doing research on current practices regarding the disposal of dead horses, but that's not the point I'm trying to make. What I'm trying to say is, why do some people regard horses as dumb and usefull only for riding?

I'm not saying I think horses are dumb, and I'm not saying people who own horses think they're dumb. I just know some people who think they're dumb, and I'm looking for examples that prove them otherwise. (Thankyou for your example, by the way.) I know a mustang is a breed-I only worded it that way because some people see them as only WILD horses.

I rescued a starved mare and have been taking care of her. She is the most gentlest creature with lots of love for us. She does express how happy she is to she is when she neighs or whinnies and follows us around. Horses are very intelligent animals and if you trust them they will trust you and see you as their herd leader. I have not had alot of experiences with horses but I have enjoyed the experiences that i have had and would welcome many more. They are a magnificent creature and I relish in their beauty and the depth that you are able to see in their eyes.

You really don't have a clue, do you? You should really just delete your question because every additional detail you had just sticks another foot in your mouth. Who says that horses are dumb? Ask any owner of a horse and they can tell you that their horses are smarter than most people. They greet them with excitement when their owners arrive, and they have an amazing sense of humor. We had a horse once who could pop open a beer, drink it, and then drop it on the ground and crush it, now tell me that's not smart. And as for your mustangs comment... that's a breed honey, not some mythical unridable horse. They can be broken and trained just like a quarter horse. And I'm not even going to touch the "they don't realize they're being ridden" comment. So please turn off the computer and go to school, because you are the dumb one in the topic.

Horses that "allow" us to ride t hem have been trained. They are smart enough to learn to do this. Some do it out of fear, because they were broken the wrong way. Others do it out of love for their humans, respect for the ones who care for them, and for the fun of it. (My horses enjoy being ridden- you can tell.)
Horses DO show enthusiasm - in a horsey way. They perk up ears, rub their heads against you, nudge you with their noses - anyone who has been around well-socialized horses will know this. Horses who have been abused are not warm towards people. and with good reason.
As for the slaughter, it is a necessary evil. I do not agree with the way it is done but there are loads of horses that are not usable and there are not enough foster homes for unusable horses, so what do we do with them - starve them?
And as for mustangs - there are many people who do ride mustangs. Yes, they are a wild "breed," but they can be tamed.
You touched on a good point - horses are prey animals. They respond differently than dogs - which are predators.

Yes and horses do show affection but it isn't as clear as say a dogs. To horse lovers just a horse walking up to you in the paddock the way they nuzzle their heads on our back a little wicker as we leave for the day these things.. These thing really matter to horse lover. Just the soft touch of a mothers nose to her foal is enough to make us weep with joy, the soft skin of a horses coat just after its been groomed and the powerful muscles that you feel when you ride bare back. Horses are not dumb but loving and compassionate you just have to look a little more for it.

I have heard people claim they think horses are dumb. These people that have tried to claim this are talking about a specific breed of horse. Unfortunately, I don't remember the breed of horse, but my neighbour said they were essentially stupid! He says none of the other breeds are like this. For the most part, horses are EXTREMELY INTELLIGENT and they have fantastic memories.

Not long ago, I had three minature horses. One of my three horses, I constantly worried about. My mare constantly picked on him. She would chase him away, bite him and kick him. I kept trying to get him to defend himself and he wouldn't. For the longest time, this horse acted seriously stupid. I use to get so frustrated with him because he didn't appear to learn anything. I worked and worked and worked with him and he never seemed to catch on. I was beginning to fear my mare was going to create a major vet bill for me because of him and so I finally opted to find him another home to keep him safe. Just before I found him his new home, he began to open gates, doors or anything else that he could find to open. After he had his new home, his personality and totally flip flopped. He was no longer a stupid horse but a very crafty and creative horse. He is so crafty and creative now, that the new owner decided to change his name to Houdini.

And about the riding bit. Some people are riding a certain type of dog (again, I forgot the breed), like a horse. Several teens in the neighbourhood told me they wanted that specific breed just to ride it.

Who is negative toward horses?
Most folks I know like them.
Euthanasia is a sad fact of life these days. Dogs are also killed because there are not enough homes.
And they don't make glue out of horses anymore.
As to people eating them, well, I feel like at least that poor animal's life meant someone is getting nourishment. We don't like it, but it's better than letting them rot somewhere.

Yes, recycling is the best we bipeds can do to reserve the resources of our planet.
The rest of the 'statement' is some sorta childhood trauma (I'm guessing)?
Because, LET THEM RIDE or LICK our face...is TRAINING. Like, PUT THAT TOILET SEAT DOWN you MORON!
