For some ladies Depo is perfect I can only share with you my experience
I was on Depo for a year when I got pregnant the first time... we assumed that I'd just been late on a shot or something and after the birth of our child resumed the shots on a regular schedule, we found out we were pregnant with our daughter a week before our son's 1st birthday.
Some forms of hormonal birth control DO NOT WORK for ALL WOMEN.
But as for the information you asked for...
31Use condoms for the first 2 weeks after you get the shot just in case (this is the same thing a doctor will tell you)
#2.. I don't have an answer for, you'll need to consult your OB/GYN
#1 Most forms of birth control these days are given between 95-99% for their effectiveness against unplanned pregnancies, Depo is no different from the rest other than the fact that it's a shot that you receive once every 3 months and the testimony of women who've been on it is very Black & White
Either they love it or absolutely hate it....
You'll have to see how it works for you, no one else's experience can predict your own.
Good Luck...

Ask a doctor these questions, not yahoo answers. Opinions on here sure, free most likely inaccurate medical advice no. Make an appointment, pay the co-pay and get the right answers.
I have been on Depo, but not going to answer the questions because what is ok for me isn't for you maybe.

I can only address your first question. Depo is just as effective in preventing pregnancy, but it's NOT 100%, nothing is (except abstinence). Even with Depo, a person should still use condoms to protect against STDs.

I enjoyed being on Depo. I did not have any negative side effects and not having a period at all was nice. My doctor had me switch after a couple of years because prolonged use has been linked to early onsets of osteoporosis. It was 100% effective for me.

Read up on the severe side effects of Depo before you even think of considering the shot.

I didn't like it. I was sad and hormonal and I gained weight. They do cause loss in bone density too. But I did get this for you, hope it helps.
