Hi!
I just had my daughters ears done 7 weeks ago when she was 4 months old. She was fine! I did clean them like I was told for the first few days, but after that I just left them and did not touch them at all!! There has been no infection as of yet and they do not seem to bother her. However, I will suggest that if you decide to get them done you have to purchase a product called EMLA! This stuff is amazing!! It will actually freeze the skin so that they don't feel it! I used it with my baby and she did not even cry when she got her ears done. All she did was let out a little wimper and I think that was because we were just staring at her waiting for her to scream. It is kind of pricey, but you can also use it for waxing (bikini, upper lip, etc). I had a lot of comments about when I was deciding to get them done. The one that kinda of made me think was the one about letting her decide when she gets old enough. First of all how many girls don't have their ears pierced? not very many! The ones that don't probably have mothers that thought that they shouldn't get them done until they are old enough to decide. Well now they are old enough to decide and are now to scared because they know it is going to hurt or they end up getting their ears done and it doesn't stop at getting just the ears pierced once because they feel like they missed out on something and have to make up for lost time!!

I got my daughters ears pierced at 4 and half months. They say the longer you wait its bad because the baby can feel the irritaiton and can pull on the ears. Earlier than this is also not recommendable because the baby's ears are too soft. So the normal time is between 4 to 8 months.

it is really best to wait until her ears are much farther along. it is harder to get earrings even on an infant to begin with, and even if you do her ears will grow, and the holes will most likely turn out uneven. i got my ears pierced in second grade, and i remember it all because it was such a big deal. my mom took me out, just the two of us, and we got lunch and went shopping, and i got my ears pierced. it was a great bonding time for us both, and i am glad she waited until i was old enough to decide for myself. plus i had to take care of them by myself, and clean them twice a day and all that... so a little bit of a responsibility lesson there too.

earrings on little baby girls sure are cute, though! so if you do decide to do it, you should wait until she has had her 4 month shots. most places will not require that, but it is smart.

i am having a baby in 2 weeks, and if it is a girl i will definitely be waiting to pierce her ears.

It's personal choice. When they are that little,it's jsut one more thing you need to keep an eye on and keep clean etc,so it's no more trouble. It's probably easier than on a 3 year old you have to catch and sit down to do the maintenece LOL 4 weeks is fine,I have never heard of the immunisation thing, if that were true, like puppies, we wouldn't take them anywhere till theyd had thier needles LOL
I fyou are prepared for a fussy baby for a few days while the ears heal,go for it.Keep it clean as advised and look for signs of inflammation and if yiu see any report it to the doctor, but there is normally no problems.Good luck:)

She should be able to tell you she wants them pierced before you do it. After all they are her ears you want to poke holes into. You should know that about half of the infants that have their ears pierced, their parents end up having to take the earings out and let them close over because of infection.

I had my ears done at 1 week old. Its better to do it young when she can't remember the pain, although a lot of people make their children do it at 16.

They have to have their first immunizations. So bring those with you when you get her ears pierced. So after 2 mths old

sorry it is after the 2nd immunizations...and you do need to bring the immunizations with you or they wont let you do it. As for as the like puppies comment...there is a big difference between taking our baby somewhere and sticking holes in their ears. I actually want to get my girls done as well. At the mall here (I believe its Claires) they said the baby has to have had 2 immunizations and you have to bring proof. I asked my Dr about this and she agreed.
