My understanding is that one theory is that they lead to another dimension. If so, what is this dimenion? Is it time, as we know it, or is it something else?

Sorry for the basic way in which this question is worded, I don't have a very good grasp on this sort of thing, but i want to.

Interesting topic really. Wormholes are mathematically plausible. No direct scientific proof of existence though.

You cannot goto the time dimension. We are already in it. The word dimension is severely misunderstood.

We live in a universe with a proposed 10 dimensions (possibly more.) The first 4 dimensions are height, length, depth and finally time. The first 3 are embedded in our consciousness, we can visualize those easily. Time is a bit harder for us because we can't see the entire dimension, we only "see" the present. and the other dimensions are not perceptible to us at all.

String theory allows for a multiverse, and states that there are other universes sitting right beside our own that we cannot see. In these universes there might be a little blue planet with other humans living there, including another copy of yourself. These other universes have also been called dimensions.

Think of it as like a portal and you might not know whats on the other side so it may lead back in time or maybe it leads into 5 seconds ahead.

A worm hole is located beneath your feet. It is the hole that allows worms to escape the ground after a heavy rain.
