My son is very dyslexic which means he cannot read. He needs to add power steering fluid to his 1995 BMW 325i but he is afraid of putting the fluid in the wrong container. Can you help.

I looked in the RockAuto catalog under '95 BMW 325i and under Steering there is a photo of the power steering reservoir. It is a small barrel shaped thing with a cap on top and two hose fittings on the bottom. I could not figure out how to cut and paste the photo to this answer so take a look yourself.

There is a black plastic container with a screw top cover (only one in the entire engine compartment - brake and coolant reservoir is clear plastic). When you take the cover off, you will see a stick with marking points attached to the cover. This is the place where you'll add the power steering fluid (be careful not to overfill).

Do not add regular power steering fluid to the system. Your car needs a special fluid (Pentosin) that you probably won't find at an auto parts store. You will need to go to the dealer for the fluid and it is pretty expensive. Do not let Jiffy Lube, etc put the wrong fluid in the power steering system or you will have leaking seals.

Good luck!

BMW uses a separate reservoir and pump.

I will assume it's in the same place as my 520i. Mine is on the driver's fender, just behind the air filter box.

If you e-mail me with a good e-mail address, I will send a photo.
