we just bought a new computer today cause it was on sale and it came with vista preloaded on it. when we try to install our printer (hp photosmart 7700) the installation stops because we "dont have administrative rights" even though both my husband and i are administrators. i would like to be able to fix this problem so we dont have to buy windows xp even though that is the os we would both prefer. any info is greatly appreciated, i need to be able to use the printer and it is almost brand new anyway.

With XP and Vista you do not need to 'install' your printer. Just hook it up and you should get a "New Hardware Found" message followed by "New Hardware is Installed and Ready To Use". Drivers are preloaded in Windows, no need for your installation disk.
Good luck, have fun.

Try right clicking on the instillation file for the printer and select run as administrator from the context menu.

I AM AFRAID THAT WINDOWS VISTA BETA COULD HAVE BEEN GIVEN TO YOU!!! BETA MEANS IT"S NOT REALLY WINDOWS YET JUST A PREVIEW OF WHAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE. BECAUSE WHEN WINDOWS VISTA BETA WAS OUT I DOWNLOADED IT AND INSTALLED IT AND I AM THE ONE WHO SETUP THE PASSWORDS ON IT SO I AM VERY ABVIOUSLY THE ADMINISTRATOR BUT EVERYTIME I TRIED TO INSTALL SOMETHING NEW IT WOULD TELL ME THAT I NEED ADMINISTARTIVE PRIVELEGES TO DO SO. SO I THINK SOMEONE MUST HAVE SOLD YOU A FAKE UNFULL VERSION OF WINDOWS VISTA....
