I love people in the South. You all are so friendly and respectful. I think it's great. When I visit family who live down South I love how the children show such respect to the elders. Calling them mam and sir. All my nieces and nephews friends call me Miss Autumn. Cute as heck.

Ever since Jimmy Carter was elected President, the tolerance of Northerners for Southerners in the US has been vastly improved. Of course, this doesn't help if you're confronted by idiots, which we in the North breed in great quantities. I'm from Cleveland, Ohio, which is definitely North and proud of it. It wasn't until I found myself attending graduate school in Mississippi that I realized that I had plenty of prejudices to lose.
A few things set Northerners off about Southerners.
One is first names. Nobody is named Trey, or Krystal, or Starr, or Billie Joe up here. It would help if we were, but we're not, and that's always a surprise. I had an advanced calculus professor whose first name was Jackie. Didn't know if he was male or female. (Answer: male, and he took pity upon me, and got me through that class.)
The accents are surprising as well. Mississippi and much of Alabama are fairly gentle, but Georgia Piedmont--e.g. President Carter--is gonna be a challenge. Ditto for some parts of Texas. Again, nothing much can be done, but perhaps it's useful to be aware of it. Your average below-average Northerner seizes upon such things to make himself feel superior.
I wouldn't worry about perceived racism. We have you beat for that, despite what popular history would have us believe.
Anyone worth hanging around with up here will be charmed by your accent, fascinated by your name, and interested in you as a person. Television has exacerbated and exaggerated regional differences; apparently the American ideal these days is to be from nowhere.
There are other regional prejudices here. In Ohio, the Appalachian people from the southern area of the state are made miserable for their accents and heritage. In New England, the folks from Maine and Vermont have the same problem, and in Maine and Vermont the French Canadians are given hell. In the mountain West, it's Native American Indians. In the rest of the West, it's Hispanics.
It's hard on kids, but things improve as people either grow up or are recognized for the fools they are. Good luck. And welcome, accent and all. You'll do fine.

People from the South are as genuine and gracious as they come! Additionally, they are rooted in and respect their history and heritage (no, I am NOT referring to anything that is "racist-based"). There is a greater appreciation for enjoying life and not taking each day for granted. The accents are GREAT!

People from the deep south are just that. People. Just like any other people. There are great ones, and there are idiots. There are heros, and cowards. Racists and non-racists. They just happen to be from the deep south.

To be honest I would question whether you are racist. I would also question whether or not you can cook! Even racists make some great biscuts! My dad is from the deep south and he has told me some stories. BTW I happen to think a deep southern drawl is rather sexy! So are you a racist? Don'r worry I respect the fact that at least you are willing to admit it if you are. I hate people who fake it!

I was going to say that the accents from that area are hard to understand. Not knowing you, I cannot judge you, your personality, whether or not you are racist. And, that's the truth.

assalam o alikum,
i would like to answer your question with the help of the following verse from Quran which is translated by 3 different writers.
chapter 49, verse # 13
049.013
YUSUFALI: O mankind! We created you from a single (pair) of a male and a female, and made you into nations and tribes, that ye may know each other (not that ye may despise (each other). Verily the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is (he who is) the most righteous of you. And Allah has full knowledge and is well acquainted (with all things).
PICKTHAL: O mankind! Lo! We have created you male and female, and have made you nations and tribes that ye may know one another. Lo! the noblest of you, in the sight of Allah, is the best in conduct. Lo! Allah is Knower, Aware.
SHAKIR: O you men! surely We have created you of a male and a female, and made you tribes and families that you may know each other; surely the most honorable of you with Allah is the one among you most careful (of his duty); surely Allah is Knowing, Aware.
may Allah (God) guide us towards the right path, ameen
Allah hafiz

I can't judge anyone without first walking a mile in their shoes....even then I don't judge without expecting to be judged.

From your question it's easy to sum up that you are a bigot
probably from a lower socioeconomic background and
envy blacks that are doing much better than you inspite of
of you advantage of being white in a descriminating environment.
I'll bet i'm fairly accurate in my description.
