when genetic traits are passed down through the sex chromosomes, is the fact that the y chromosome in men doesn't carry traits make that impossible, or have i read false information?

No, it's not impossible, just far less likely than for men, as they have 2 copies of the X chromosome, on which the recessive trait is carried.

. If a colorblind male has children with a carrier female, then both boys and girls will have a 50% chance of being colorblind, with all non-colorblind girls being carriers.

If a carrier female has children with a non-colorblnd male, then only male children will have a 50% chance of inheriting colorblindness. In that case, 50% of daughters will also be carriers.

If a colorblind female has children with a non-colorblind male, all sons will be colorblind, and all daughters carriers.

If a colorblind male has children with a non-carrier female, all daughters will be carriers, and all sons unaffected.

If a colorblind male and a colorblind female have children together, then all of the offspring will be colorblind, regardless of sex.

I think you may have been mistold something. I believe that colorblindness runs on the X chromosone, and men, having only one, will have a higher chance of getting it because, unlike women who have two x chromosones, they dont have another to dominate over it. So men have a higher chance, though women can get it.
