Go to your local department store - most places (like Clinique, MAC, Estee Lauder, etc.) will offer free makeup application, without obligation to buy - that way you can get some ideas from a professional, and figure out what you like and what you don't. I would also go to a salon and ask for suggestions on changing your hairstyle/color. Clothes are a little harder, but if you shop during off-hours (like weekday days rather than evenings or weekends) stores are usually less crowded and you can try on different things until you figure out what you like. Don't be afraid to ask the opinions of those around you or take a friend you trust to be honest (but positive!) with you. It's more fun that way, anyway. :)
