Gcf(48 & 72) = 24
D(48) - {1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, 48}
D(72) = {1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, 12, 24, 36, 72}

It's 24 because 24*2 = 48 and 24*3 = 72

I start by doing the prime factor for each
48=2*2*2*2*3
72=2*2*2*3*3
The most they have in common is three 2s an one 3
2*2*2*3=24.

If you already know that they are both divisible by a particular number, you may factor that out and see what you have left in common.

I hope this helps
