Direct Source Special Products, Inc. put out a set of cd's that are technically for naptime...."Soothing Siesta, Goodnight Classics, Sleep Like a Baby, etc...... I honestly don't know if they are still on the market, but they have been wonderful. I keep some in the car for "calm time" and some at home to turn on cd player at bedtime. Usually my daughter is asleep before the 2nd selection - they are all symphonic and they even calm me down in traffic... The baby Einstein videos are great, also.

I love Baby Einstein as well, but classical is not the only music that has to be played for a baby. Almost any music is great for babies and some babies even prefer certain genres once exposed to them. I play everything for my son at different times. He was given a silly songs for kids CD that he loves to bounce around to in the afternoon. We play with toys with Mozart in the background. He relaxes to Bach in the evening before bed. My husband and I play gospel, Carpenters, Prince, etc. for him. Everything is new to him - we want to give him the opportunity to hear many different artists.

I'm with everyone else on the Baby Einstein. I also really like The Little People CDs; they make them with lots of different themes, and they're so fun to sing along with.

Gentle and uplifting classical and 'world' music is great for little ones' minds. I also found that my toddler (now nearly five) loves old recordings of traditional children's songs e.g. rainbow song (red-and-yellow-and-pink-and-green etc), folk songs (I-saw-a-ship-a-sailing) and Over The Rainbow (Judy Garland). They are simple and gentle and encourage your child to listen and appreciate melody. Ambient recordings like birdsong and sounds of nature are good. You can put them on when children are going to sleep.
Babies don't really respond to tv images, but when children are older you can start with wildlife programmes. When children can follow stories - some favourites in my household are Bagpuss and Mr. Benn: they have gentle adult voice-overs, good music and leave plenty to the child's imagination which is important when putting your child in front of the TV.

my baby loves the baby einstein series. They play classical music with visually pleasing objects. They can start watching some of them as early as 3 months.
