today i had to send my kids to school and it was only 8 F outside with wind gust of 33 mph making it hard to catch your breath and the wind chill was -11 F. the news says it will only get worse because a huge cold snap is coming in. when is it too cold to send these young children to school...... i know that i myself do not feel comfortable going out in this myself and i am 30 and big enough to withstand the weather longer.

what temperature F is considered tooooooo cold? sorry my key froze.

ps..... THIS IS A COUNTRY SCHOOL SO IN ORDER TO CATCH THE BUS THE KIDS (7 AND 10) HAVE TO WALK 1/2 MILE TO SAND ON THE ROADSIDE FOR 5 TO 10 MINUTES WITH NOTHING TO BLOCK THE WIND.

ALSO THESE KIDS WEIGH 70-100 POUNDS AND ARE FAR SMALLER THAN AN ADULT THAT COULD PHYSICALLY WITHSTAND MORE.

Alright, so you want something filling, something sweet, something salty, and a drink. Something filling would be maybe leftover fried chicken, leftover pizza, a sandwich with ham, turkey, or bologna with cheese (no mayonnaise, just mustard), and things like that. Something sweet would be a snack cake, a packet of cookies, a packet of fruit snacks, or a fruit roll-up. Something salty would be potato chips (NEVER the lite variety, it gives people "brown drip"), pretzels, pita chips, or tortilla chips. I would also say nuts, but since your children have nut allergies, you can't use those. Something to drink would maybe be a small bottle of water. Juice makes them hyper and is bad for their teeth. Not too big, maybe half a liter or a pint. You can put it in the freezer the night before, so when it's lunch time, the sandwich is cold, and the water has warmed up enough to drink, but it's still cold. Maybe you could also put in a short note, like "I love you, Mom". That would help. Ok, I hope this helps! I forgot. NO LUNCHABLES!!! THEY ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND BAD FOR YOU!!!

I walked to school 12 blocks every day sometimes even in sub zero weather and it never hurt me. Just make sure they are dressed warm. For some reason kids don't feel the cold like adults do. If I kept my kids home from school because of the cold they would be outside playing in it anyway. Might as well send them to school. My son has to walk 19 blocks to school and it doesn't seem to bother him.

Thousands of kids withstand this every year. Why are your kids so special? If you are so worried about them give them a ride to school or to the bus stop and go pick them up after school.

If I kept my kids out of school every time it got that cold they would call it truancy and kick them out of school. Then I would have to home school them. There's an idea home school them and then they will never have to leave the house.

my mom never waited for them to close school-she said no if cars were sliding all over the road, if winds were too high or if weather conditions were predicted to worsen, it's like people who leave home at 8 to be at work at 9 knowing that hte weather is a hot mess. They get in accidents trying to rush and make everyone late and for what.

consider that when the remp drops below 32 you can get frostbite in 10 minutes-your child's life is not worth that. keep them home especially with the combined wind, temp and windchill; let them read some books or write a story about the weather

I hope this helps

The school will let you know when it's too cold. If the staff can get there, then your kids can. Send them. They'll be just fine.
