How old is the rat?
Very young rats or very old rats have little control.
Most times they train themselves, just be aware of how they act and put them back into their cage.

Because they just do. I had a pet rat many years ago and he had a tendency to pee on anything electrical. I think the electricity excited him. Just clean it up, he will always do it.

Don't be offended. Your rat really does like you. It's just what they do. They don't dicriminate, and you can't potty train them.
Let the rat be a rat and that's that.
Say hi for me.
