I am trying to learn how to do algebra but I am totally lost. My professor really tried to help me but I just couldnt pick up on the way that he was teaching me. Do you know of any easy ways or shortcuts to remember that would help me really learn algebra and keep it in my head?

See, now that's a good question.

Have you looked at www.algebrahelp.com? It will help you through individual lessons, with plenty of examples and calculators.

I also think people on this site will help if you are really interested in learning!

In all sincerity I say this. Your best bet is going to be to either find a student/friend who is willing to help you out or ask your parents to help you find a tutor who might be able to take the time to assist you. The hardest part is admitting that you are having difficulties. You have acknowledged that and as long as your professor knows you are making efforts, it would be very hard for him/her to count that against you.

Explaining how to do Algebra is not something that can be answered in a question like the one you asked. It would take a good amount of time and one-on-one communication to help you to understand the concepts you need to make forward progress in it. I highly recommend taking one of my two suggestions to heart. I used to tutor and help out a few friends in this same fashion. Having someone else explain something in a different way then your professor can make a huge difference.

A final alternative would be to have the professor pair you up with someone in the class who is excelling in it where they can try to take some extra time during class to help you along with the parts of the lesson you aren't clear on.

I appreciate your cander in wanting to learn and be able to produce results and wish you the best of luck and success in this aspect of your education.

On one last note, I agree that there are a lot of people on this site who can assist you and are willing to do that. The problem with this site though is, while Algebra has it's form and purposes, there are several ways to find a solution to the same answer. (Specifically in the order of the way you solve things.) If you use one person's example to solve something, the next time you have a problem, you might get a similar answer, but might not be able to follow the logic in how the answer was gotten to. If you were having trouble in a single area of algebra, then I would say post here, but if it's the basic premises and concepts in general, you need hands on assistance, and I'm sure there are people on here who would support my sentiments in this matter.

example: you buying this stuff for 5$ for each stuff, plus a delivery charge of 15$.

now the question is how much money will it cost you if you buy 10 stuff?
solving the problem: you are gonna multiply the amount of stuff which is(10) by (5$)which is the regular cost for each stuff, and add (15$)which is the deli every charge.

10*5=50+15=65
In ths problem the answer is 65$

That how you work a Algebra problem
