When I was at Sea World San Diego a few years ago, they told us that the white spot next to the eye is camoflage. It fools anything into doing harm to the sopt(thinking its the eye) and not the eye itself.
The white belly is also camoflage. Looking up at it, the white belly blends into the sea/sky iteself.

I hope I explained that understandably.

Whales are pretty neat creatures.

the pattern is a camouflage it blends then into the surf when hunting seals on the beaches I have watched videos of this and its very hard to see the whales until the tides go back out and the whale is out of water.

Camouflage of waters and ice flows. The light is deflected on their bellies to scare their prey and make them panic. Amazing fact that they are not whales, but instead are dolphins.
GOOD LUCK!!!
