Is it Marcellus Wallace's soul or what? Does anyone really know for sure?

Tarantino has went on record as saying he wanted whoever watched the movie to draw their own conclusion. The biggest theory on the internet is that it's Marcellus's soul. There's a good argument for this.
It goes like this. Marcellus sold his soul to the devil in exchange for being a rich and powerful man. People say the soul was taken from the back of Marcellus neck, therefore he always wears a band-aid back there (Tarantino comments on this rumor saying Ving Rhames had huge bumps on the back of the head and he wasn't willing to change the scene where Marcellus is talking to Butch in the bar where all you see is the back of Marcellus' head)
The briefcase belonged to the devil (the combination is 666). When Jules recites a bible verse (Ezekial 25:17) it got God's attention and protected Jules and Vincent from the guy hiding out in the bathroom (the divine intervention fiasco)... blah blah blah..

The devil/ Marcellus Wallace's soul theory doesn't make much sense. First of all, "666" is the sign of the anti-Christ; it has nothing to do with the devil. (Besides, guess how many three number locks have 666 as their combination?) Second, what would these punk kids be doing with something like this in a suitcase? How would it have gotten there? Why would it be there? Why would it be so easy to get back?
It makes much more sense that these kids screwed something up of a much more mundane manner. They realize they've messed up, and they are willing to give it all back. Too late. Marcellus has ordered a massacre to make sure his reputation for how he deals with those who screw with him is well understood by the audience. This adds intensity when Bruce Willis pulls off his scam. We all know what awaits him if he slips up.

Right, a human soul. Not sure if it's Marcellus' though...been a while since I've seen it.

Tarantino has never specified what was in the case, you are supposed to use your imagination, thats how he wanted it. Some people think it was a soul others think it was gold, it's an open ended unanswered question.

Actually the band-aid on the back of his head/neck...
Would be to cover the hole from an execution style shooting.
I've heard the hole deal with the devil theory and like it alot better than quentins' "nothing" explanation.

No one says, except the Q MAn says it was a light bulb.
The IMPLICATION is that it is marsellus' soul (note the combo to open it is "666"

I believe it was "Gold Bars". They never said what was in there, but.. I suspect it was "Gold"
