You could join a club or organization, and meet people with the same interests as you. Or you said you like exercising, so then join a gym and meet people that you're working out with.
And you're right about college. I'm an eighteen year old in university, and in one of my history classes we have an elderly lady, which is rather odd since she's surrounded by hundreds of young people. But hey, she's still there.
I hope everything turns out okay for you.

find something that you enjoy doing and you will meet people in your area. There are many people your age who go to school in the evening. I'm in my 40's and still attend a class every once in a while for my work. My father went to college and earned his degree when he was in his 50's. You are never to young or old to learn. If you don't get out of the house, you will never know what is out there until you try. Also, try to stay positive and have a happy outlook on life and people will be drawn to you. Remember to smile every once in while too, that way people will want to talk to you and be your friend.

I am 40 and no exactly how you feel. I like to go to the movies by myself at times. I am just getting to know the real me......and eventually you will meet people when you find out how much you appreciate yourself instead of looking and searching for others to complete you. I know this from exp. I have lost some reallly important vital people in my life and I have finally realized that it's the person you make of yourself and when others see how you like yourself then you become more of an "inviting" person to others. Get out and mingle with others even if you have to just litterally put yourself in that place like driving to the mall or going to River Park. Don't hang around like a weirdo but just "window shop " around people and stores and try to live your life "openly" watch your body language and then if you meet "married" people then you might meet someone single too. Volunteer also it helps you within yourself to find the true meaning of the human kindness.

First thing, watch My Big Fat Greek Wedding.
Next, the only way to make friends is to be friendly yourself. If you feel uncomfortable, the only way to get over it is to go out of your way to make others feel comfortable. It works, trust me!
GO TO COLLEGE! At my college classes, there are always older-than-college people coming, and nobody cares. Just make sure, even if you think you are unattractive or something, that you use good hygienic habits (like, be clean and take care of yourself).
Stop putting yourself down about how you look, too. If you know of people who are snobby cuz they think they look really good, you are doing the same thing if you think you don't look good. They are both different forms of pride. Be happy with who you are, be friendly and serving to others, and friends will come!
Also, get involved with community programs. Do you like sports, music, or are there things you'd like to learn how to do? Look for classes on them. Meet new people there, and then you can start networking with their friends! Just get the ball rolling with the above advice. Good luck!
;)

You are never too old to learn!!!!!!!!! I wasted time in my 20''s. Went to college at 31. It was the best decision I ever did. There are plenty in college at our age. DO IT!!!!!!! You will not regret it.
