Or anger turned inward. I know people who are depressed and angry and they are not repressing it. They are just so angry at them self for many reasons. Read Bhagavad Gita as it is By Bhaktivedanta Prabhpada- tells how anger arises from the root and how to get rid of anger and all misery.

I think that when someone feels depressed, it is possible that it is repressed anger and how that repressed anger manifests itself. At the same time, I don't think all depression, especially clinical depression is repressed anger. I fight with depression all the time and when I get that feeling, I'm not angry at anything or about anything, but I can see how it could be. Like someone internalizing their anger. I think it would just depend on a case by case basis though.

I think that depression comes with the inability to cope with a certain situation which leads to great sadness. But it could be the case that it is repressed anger in certain cases. I believe that if an individual is not allowed or does not express themselves, it becomes all too much for one to bear. And it comes out in the form of psychological problems. Hence, repressed anger could/might be one cause for an individuals depression.

The classic definition of depression is that it is anger turned inward. So yes, repressed anger is a good way to put it. This also causes a chemical reaction in the brain that is the medical component of the disease. So get those bad feeling out of your system. You will be happier and live longer.

Sometimes. It's not the same for everyone.

Technically, depression is "learned helplessness," or the overwhelming emotional-turned-physical sense that nothing you do will help. How one gets there can vary some from person to person. Anger may have been a factor at one point, or it may not have been. Just because you don't "feel" angry doesn't mean it isn't a factor, however. Depressed folks are generally overwhelmed by, and therefore cut off from, their more intense feelings. They might have a lot of anger and not feel it's safe to express, so they deny it to the point where they don't even know it. Not that this is everyone, but that's the general idea.

Depression is a state of mind with many ways of getting to it, including repressed anger, thwarted desires, reaction to loss, chemical imbalance and so forth.

Think of all the different ways you can become happy, or angry, or reach any other mental state. The same holds true for depression.

I'm suffering from depression and I don't feel anger. I can understand how some people with depression might feel anger, but that's not the case with me. It's just sadness, emptiness and lonliness on the worst days.

I am one that thinks depression has many facets.
ONE.. Situational depression.. when one is faced with abnormal amounts of stressors that lead to overwhelming emotions that the mind/body are forced to compensate.
TWO... Chemical... Yes, our bodies are made up of many chemicals, hormones, etc... They most certainly can become non functional due to some abnormality or deficit.
THREE... EMOTIONS have much to do with our body chemistry and how we perceive others, criticism, experiences, etc.
Qualifying depression means taking all into consideration!
And honestly, I believe that moderate amounts of depression can be cured by going through the experience... When it becomes debilitating, then other measures need to be implemented.

I think it is, at least a lot of the time. I have a lot of anger but no way to let it out. That is a very unhealthy thing.
