she makes us play GAMES in class every single class meeting. Today, we sat around in a circle and everyone had to say their name and 2 things about themselves. Then she made us close our eyes and try to remember and say everyone's name and the 2 things they talked about....that wasted about 1 hour. And last class she made us sit in a circle and draw a picture of someone in the class, then we had to show our picture to everyone and they had to guess who we drew.......
i was talking to someone about this today and wanted your opinion....what does it mean when a professor wastes our time with stupid games. does this mean she's dumb and can't teach or does this just mean she wants us to get to know everyone?

It really depends what kind of class it is. What you describe sounds like typical "ice-breaker" activites where a person gets to know those around them. In some classes, it is perfectly reasonable, almost expected to have those type of activities. In other classes, those type of activities have no place.

how many times have you met in her class? if this is just the beginning, then its the "getting-to-know process"... but if you've already started with the syllabus, then look deeper into the game... there's something that she's teaching that she doesn't give directly..

i have a professor like that before.. he said, "i can't spoon feed you forever. your college students not high school students."

If the class is sociology or art appreciation, it comes with the territory...if it's calculus, you've got a problem...really depends on the subject.

It would help to know what course you are taking.I took a psychology class where we did something similar. It was to teach us to focus, using the mind without feelings.

What subject is it? Is it one where you need to work with your classmates, or where you need to feel comfortable? Is it one where you might have to debate things, or share original ideas?

Sounds like she's trying to loosen your inhibitions, so you can talk with and work with your classmates without feeling foolish, because you've all done silly things together already!

It means you're in a remedial class. This should be expected here.
