Breast biopsy usually takes a week to ten days for complete review by a pathologist. It is evaluated under the microscope to determine first whether or not cancer is there. After that special stains (further tests) can be performed to help determine more about the tumor (for example whether or not it might respond to certain types of chemotherapy). Some pathology groups are faster but they generally only do a partial assessment or have fewer cases to read for a given time.

I'd relax untill the results come back. If your doctor saw anything that worried him, he would have put a rush on the biopsy and you would have been asked to wait while they looked closer. Chances are you have a non-malignant tumor that might need to be excised, or maybe just watched. Cancer is pretty obvious and can usually be spotted in your annual mammogram. Then they do a biopsy and send it out for an immediate diagnosis. A friend of mine went in for her mammo and was in the hospital that night and operated on the next morning.
So it sounds like your doctor is just being cautious. Be glad he is. And good for you for getting checked.

It can take up to ten days. They are testing for many things so it takes time. I will tell you to be patient because you don't want any mistakes to be made. If they find something that is inconclusive then they will retest. Basically they want to be absolutely positive about what they find. After all this is a crucial test and you want all the facts. So please ask as many questions to the Doctor as possible.

Biopsies cannot be done over night, they go to a lab where different tests are performed to the biopsied tissue, some of these such as cultures, take a few days to perform.

It takes about a week to get the results of a breast biopsy. My mother just had one done this fall.
