The JET program is a good one. I was not on that program when I came over, but I have many friends who were. Whether you have a good experience all depends on where you are placed. Some friends got placed in a very rural area so there life was very laid back and they had time to pursue a lot of personal interests like activities that involved them in Japanese culture, Karate, flower arrangement, etc. Other friends were placed in the city and they had a circuit that kept them extremely busy.

You mentioned a working holiday, though. So you must be either from the UK, Australia, or Canada, or another country in the common wealth. The US does not have a Working Holiday agreement with Japan (as far as I know). But from what I have heard, you are not supposed to stay in one place on the working holiday visa. You are required to move around the country every three months or so. But, I hear that no one adheres to that part of the visa agreement.

If you do decide to take a year off, I am sure you will not regret it.

Good luck.

Yes , i had been on a official visit and found Japanese people very different from other world.
However, they were very co operative and helpful.
But they are happy in themselves.
You have the opportunity to see a different kind of a world.

Yes, I did. I went for six months and ending up staying ten years-mostly good times!
