Drive real fast down the road, then, hammer on the brakes(dont lock em up) then, jump out of the car and smell by the front rim of the car, thats kinda what a burnt up clutch smells like, it smells way nasty. Your brake pads are made with the same material that clutch pads are made of,so overstressing your brake pads would create a similar smell. I think if you have to ask,you probably do have a wasted clutch. That should set you back about 3 to 500 bucks.

Kinda like rotten eggs. Ever been behind a truck travelling down a steep grade, if you smelled something funky it would be the same smell.
Burnt brakes have the same smell so if you smell something make sure your park brake isn't stuck.

It is a very strong and distinct smell that seems to linger for a while.

Just like brakes burnt. Ever been behind an 18wheeler when it is going downhill? Well that the same smell.

That's such a horrible smell. Its like insult to injury too; after failing to do a "cool" burn out and looking like a fool, your clutch makes your car smell like a pile of burning brakes and old gear lube.
