x + y = 133
4x=3y
solve for x in one of the problems
4x=3y
x=3y/4
x+y=133
3y/4 + y = 133
multiply everything by 4
4(3y/4) + 4*y = 133*4
3y + 4y = 532
7y = 532
divide by 7
y = 532/7
y=76
x+y=133
x+76=133
x=133-76
x=57

let x be one number (smaller)
let y be the other (greater)
x + y = 133
4x = 3y
with the first one, isolate for a particular unknown, let's say for y
y = 133 - x
substitute
4x = 3(133 - x)
4x = 399 - 3x
move the three x to the other side..becomes addition
7x = 399
x = 57
if x + y = 133, then y = 133 - 57 = 76

x+y=133 x=133-y
4x=3y x=3/4y
133-y=3/4y
133=1 3/4y
133/ 7/4= y
y=76
76+x=133
133-76= 57
x=57 y=76!!!

(a + b = 133 (-3)
(4b = 3a
3a + 3b = 399
-3a + 4b = 0
-----------------
7b = 399
b = 57
a + b = 133
a + 57 = 133
a = 133 - 57
a = 76
Answer: a = 76; b = 57.

This is how I did it....
1. x+y=133
2. 3x=4y
3. 3x-4y=133
now, just use both the 1st and 3rd and substitute and you get the answers of 57 and 76

first, enable x be the ouncesof seeds used, and y be the ouncesof nuts used. so which you get x+y=40 two then, seeds cost 20 cents per ounce, and nuts cost 30 cents per ounce, you may get 20*x is the cost of seeds, and 30*y is the cost of nuts. so which you get 20x+30y=1100 ( use 1100 using fact it fairly is $11=1100 cents) and resolve for x, y x = sixteen, y = 26 the respond is sixteen ouncesof seeds and 26 ouncesof nuts
