The gene I am researching is fibrillian 1 which is found on chromosome 15. I was looking this web site http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?db=gene&cmd=retrieve&dopt=default&list_uids=2200

and it said something like

chromosome: 15; Location: 15q21.1

What does the 15q21.1 mean?

The first number will designate the number of the chromosome. The "q" means that it is located on the long arm of the chromosome. The gene in question will be located at a band number and the last number is the sub band number so....
Chromosome 15
Long arm
Band 21
Sub Band 1
Hope it helps!

I am not sure, but my best guess would be

chromosome 15
arm q
