When distilling organic volatile liquids it is a good idea to use steam and not a bunsen burner. Why is this?

Definalty, tho in my chemistry lab for disitilling we use heating mantles which are like hot plates but shaped like a bowl so the round flask fits right in.

Onk. Tantar. Open flame make things go kaBOOM!
Open flame be at tempercher of thousands degrees.
Steam boil only at 120 or so. No kaBOOM! Hahahahaa...

yes steam because voc's are combustable.
