Sometimes the cause of a low white blood cell count can't be determined (idiopathic). Known causes of a low white blood cell count (leukopenia) include:
Infections, such as viral infections and HIV
Autoimmune disorders, such as lupus
Certain medications, especially those used in chemotherapy and some antibiotics
Radiation therapy
Bone marrow disease, such as leukemia or myelodysplastic syndromes
White blood cells help fight infection in your body. A normal white blood cell count ranges from 4,500 to 10,000 cells per microliter of blood. A mild decrease in white blood cells below 4,500 cells per microliter doesn't necessarily indicate a serious illness. However, a dangerously low white blood cell count — below 2,500 cells per microliter — increases the risk of serious infection.

It means you are more prone to getting infections because the white blood cells are the ones that help to fight infections. I would be more concerned as to what is causing your low white count- there can be many causes- some of them very serious. Check with the doctor again or call and ask his nurse to discuss it with him and call you back.

Your white cell count being low doesnt' mean you have an infection. If your white cell count was HIGH, that means your body is fighting off an infection.
If you are really concerned, talk to your doctor.

white blood cells make up your immune system
in reality itself, for a normal person, the ratio between a red blood cell and a white blood cell is 100:1
however, if you numbers are lower than that, then it means that you a weak immune system, which means that you are more likely prone to attacks
i suggest you start eating healthy foods that can defend your system against infections
try things such as green leaves, ginger, herbs, etc.
talk to your doctor to receive some kinda boosters or shots to protect yourself
be careful but be healthy too
:)

If you didn't have a fever and feel well, there might be just a normal low value that need confirmations on other days. If you had also high fever, typhoid must be suspected (although viral infection may lower white blood cell count!).

i get monitored for that too
The white blood cells are your immune system. If you have a lower count, your immune system isn't as strong as someone elses. this means that you're more likely to pick up colds and coughs and flu a whole lot quicker and easier
It also means that you will take longer to get over the cold.
So basically keep away from people with colds lol

white blood cells fight off infections, so that mean you're opt to get sick often
Let me ask you, are you a germophobe or are you really careful about hygiene?
Cuz its good to be clean but dont be too careful. Germs build the immune system, your white blood cells get "lazy" so to speak.
