Put a canvas top on the bed. It will definitely improve the mileage especially at highway speeds, maybe up to 3 MPG other than that keeping it tuned up and driving slower is the only other way I know to increase your MPG.

Trade it in for a car. Seriously there are very few things you can do to improve the mileage besides the way you drive it. Take it easy taking off and keep speeds reasonable.
Trucks and SUVs have become popular in recent years because of their versatility and size but people seem to forget that a truck is designed to carry a load and is basically designed for work not commuting.
Manufacturers are under a lot of pressure to improve mileage because of federal guidelines and consumer pressure. If it was easy to boost the mileage by just bolting something on you would see it on the vehicles coming off the dealers lot.
What are you getting for mileage? Is it close to the advertised mpg or what other people are getting from theirs?

Have you ever watch an airplane landing? with the flap open upward to reduce air-speed. Its the same theory about your tailgate, the tailgate at close position trapped the airflow from the frontal of your truck over the passenger compartment and flow downward to the tailgate, this airflow makes your rear truck much heavier like carrying an additional 300 lbs of cargo on the back. The faster you drive the heavier its become. By removing the tailgate and replace it with a bed net would improve much of your mileage, also if you're an aggressive accelerator then much of fuels remained unburn this also costing your mileage. By improving your restricted airflow to an engine also a big help, try to replace your air filtration system and develop a good driving habit.

I work at a Jiffy Lube. Go and get your whole truck serviced. The big ones is... Fuel Filter replacement, Emission cleaning (cleans fuel lines and whole intake), rear differental (so it moves freely if the fluid is dirty), and upgrade to a full synthetic of synthetic blend. That makes your motor run a little more freely.

Get a good tuneup, different tires/ right air pressure, bed cover, remove any extra weight, change air-gas-oil filters, drive smoothly and reduce speed.
