Generally, insulation works by trapping air in tiny, tiny cells which inhibits the transfer of energy (heat from a warmer area to an area without as much heat).

It sounds like you have allergies. The have a recycled insulation now made out of paper and other insulations that are "itchey" free. They also have expanding foam which is awesome. Alittle more expensive but less heat loss overall. Plus less noise tranfer from outside to indoors.
