i would always want to know the truth, as just because u thought everything was fine, apparently someone else did not think so, and they are deceiving us. as our happiness is built on a lie, if the partner is not happy too. i would much rather know about it, and even though i would be hurt i could deal with it, and either move on or make changes. if they cheated it was not perfect in the first place, your just fooling yourself, and living a lie.

White lies are silly. Real lies are serious. Spouses don't cheat for no reason. There would obviously be a problem that needed to be dealt with if one spouse was cheating (even if only the fact that the cheating spouse was a scumbag). In serious matters it is always better to know the truth. Nobody likes to be made a fool of; lying is a terrible betrayal.

I didn't realize you were doing this for a paper, but good luck.
I do think, though, that once one refuses to hear the truth, then one is in total denial. They have no self-respect. I would want to trust someone, but if they are unworthy of my trust, then they should stop wasting my time. Right? Once the damage is done, there is no going back to repair it. There is an expression in my language, "Once you cut a loaf of bread, you cannot put it back together."

I would much rather find out the truth and deal with the pain and get past it instead of being lied to and living with deceit and under false happiness and lies. JMHO!

I have friends who have said they don't want to know, and I think that is crazy. What if they cheat on someone with a disease? and they come home and love you and you get it? whatever no way. I mean what if there is children involved, or you get pregnant and put them at risk. It isn't worth it. I would rather deal with pain than loose my dignity

Two sides to every story......
My husband told me after 10 years of marriage that he had cheated on me.. several times. He was trying to cleanse his guilt, have me forgive him, and have a new start so he could feel beter.
We were divorcing anyways. I wish I had never known what he told me. I would rather have just divorced and not known that. I didn't need to hurt that much.

I would have to know. Cheating is serious, i'd have to why it happened. maybe the relationship wasn't as good as i thought. It's one thing to be happy but another to live in a fantasy. sometimes you have to face the music.
