It is not illegal to buy. However, I have heard that Blizzard has been banning accounts that "sell" gold.

Buying gold outside world of warcraft is basically illegal, blizzard knows about this and has banned quite a few accounts last year. Blizzard basically is sitting and watching how many people are spamming the system by this method. If it gets out of hand they are definitely going to take action against people buying and selling gold offline.

So try and avoid this method and enjoy the game as its supposed to be.

Thanks,
robert

I've heard differently. Blizzard knows everything that happens on its servers and a few months ago did some cleaning up of accounts that were gold farming and/or selling. I'd be careful spending money to get gold. There are guides available for less that can show you how to earn that gold in the span of a couple of hours.

Blizzard knows about this, and has been enforcing it recently, so yes it is illegal, and quite possibly the stupidest thing to spend real money on. If you can't figure out how to make money in the game, you shouldn't be playing it.

No. Blizzard knows about this, and it hasn't done anything about it. People sell stuff on Diablo II, and it's legal, so it should be legal in WoW. People aren't altering the gameplay or anything like that.
